Isn’t the bourg a haven for sketchy money laundering and tax dodging types, connected to less than clean businesses? Maybe the owner is on an extended vacation, so to speak.

Things often just disappear in the night - and Germany doesn’t have the Orwellian CCTV grid as Britainistan, so it might not be too difficult...hint hint.
